What if Google Never Existed: 7 Things That Would Happen

Google has become the bible of our generation.

We turn to it when we need information. It ranges from the typical “how to kiss” search (don’t lie to yourself – you’ve searched it in high school) to Rocket Science.

So what would the world be like if the world population didn’t have Google, though?

Generally, before Google, all we had were web pages like AOL and MSN. Haha, remember that catlover28_2?

We didn’t have much choice because the search engine industry wasn’t much developed.

And then Google came!

Some Facts About Google

Today, Google has a market cap of $1.7 trillion (you can check its current price here).

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, substantially outperforms market expectations. Its annual revenue for 2023 was $307.394B, an 8.68% increase from 2022 (see the infographic below):

In addition, Google remained unbeatable throughout time.

Here’s the market of Google from 2015-2024 (see the infographic below):

As you can see, Google’s market share has remained the same, with small fluctuations.

So What if Google Never Existed?

Honestly, we’re really lucky!

Know why?

Simply because we wouldn’t live long without it. It’s really become a light in the darkness. There are definitely many things that would have happened if Larry Page and Sergey Brin hadn’t ever invented it.

To name a few shocking things, let’s take a short journey back in time when Google was just invented and imagine what would happen if it failed.

1. Spammy Content Everywhere

Yes, that’s what happened since November 2022!

After ChatGPT was invented, hundreds of thousands of content appeared on the market. Unchecked content. Spammy content.

So sooner or later Google should fight against spam.

And it happened! In March 2024, Google launched its March update to fight unoriginal and spammy content across the Internet.

So let’s see and hope that we’ll see more unique and original content in the future.

2. Porn Everywhere

Why do we put this in the first position?

Just because it would undoubtedly happen and would create chaos on the web.

At those times, old search engines like Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves and Alta (which is currently Dead) had absolutely no filtration.

The situation was very simple then. You could just tag keywords anywhere and they would place your content in so-called “prime” viewing on almost all relevant searches.

For example, when you searched “Hey, how to lose weight fast?” you had to scroll through many junky websites.

Amazing, isn’t it?

3. Bye Bye Gmail

Gmail

How many of you use Google Mailing Service?

And not only you – many organizations and companies are using Gmail now to keep communications in various sectors.

It was created in February 2006 as Gmail for your domain. It is to allow various system administrators of companies or organizations to create their email accounts for their own domain.

So basically, you would also lose this cool business style and convenience.

I don’t know about you, but I would get upset if I couldn’t use this crazy service.

Don’t forget that Google also brought Android into our lives.

If you take the Global mobile OS market share, there’s a clear battle between Google’s Android OS and Apple’s iOS.

In the US, iPhone has a 57.93% market share whereas Android has a 70.29% global market share (see the infographic above).

Anyway, without Samsung’s Android devices, the iPhone is a pretty expensive alternative.

5. You’d Probably Still Be Lost Right Now

Google maps

How many times have you used Google Maps or Google Maps App to get you out of a sticky situation?

For instance, recently I traveled to Venice, Italy, and got lost there.

Without the app, I would have to ask people to find the way out. The thing is that they didn’t know what was where, as there are more than 300 bridges on the Island itself.

So Google always sits patiently in my pocket just waiting to help me find my way.

6. No Google Docs

Google docs

Today, Google Docs is being used by millions of people worldwide.

Moreover, they don’t have to think about setting up documents and spreadsheets online to be accessed by different computers because it’s Online.

If Google Docs didn’t exist, perhaps we would still need to grab a cute USB drive as the document sharing would just get much more difficult.

7. Internet Explorer/Edge

Internet Explorer

Remember when we’re (at least) trying to surf the Internet with the Internet Explorer, before the Google Chrome?

If yes then you’ve definitely experienced minutes of the loading process and you probably didn’t like it, did you? So Google Chrome makes our lives much easier, faster and more comfortable.

Conclusion
